Carl Toben departed this life last Tuesday afternoon, May 4, 1976, at our Akron hospital, following an illness of several weeks. He was 75 years of age.
Carl Henry Toben was born in Westfield Township, Plymouth county, Iowa, March 3, 1901. His parents were Carl and Clara Toben. He was baptized and confirmed in infancy in Trinity Lutheran church of Akron and became a member of Immanuel church in June, 1927. At a marriage service in Le Mars, he was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Welch. The wedding took place July 9, 1930. Right away they made their home on a farm near Westfield and continued farming until his retirement in 1966. Carl Toben was a friendly and neighborly person who had a wide circle of friends. His wife preceded him in death in September, 1974.
Among those who survive his departure are: his four sons, John and Gene, both of Akron, Carl of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Marvin of Westfield, Iowa; his two daughters, Mrs. Mary Wegner of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Mrs. Joan Hansen of Pierson, Iowa; his 24 grandchildren; his 2 great-grandchildren; his two brothers, John and Martin, both of Akron; his sister, Katherine Toben of Akron and his half-sister, Mrs. Amelia Dewey of Akron.
The funeral service in his memory was at Immanuel Lutheran church, last Friday afternoon, May 7, with Pastor David J. Roy officiating. Phyllis Frisk was organist and accompanied Carol Harris as she sang "Beautiful Savior" and "How Great Thou Art." The casket bearers were Chuck Toben, Mike Toben, Ed Wegner, Jack Toben, Scott Toben, Jim Wegner and Mark Hansen. Interment was in Riverside cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home.
