Mrs. Martin Toben, 90, Akron, died Sunday (October 14, 1984) at the Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden after a brief illness.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. Marvin Mueller officiated. Roxanne Larson, vocalist, sang "What A Friend" and "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied on the organ by Pam Richards. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Pallbearers were Norman Marienau, Marvin Marienau, Leonard Marienau, Henry Vander Helm, Norman Klemme and Mike McDougall.
Mrs. Toben, the former Anna Freda Reika Berg, was born August 6, 1894 to Herman and Margaret Heeren Berg near Le Mars. She married Martin Toben.Sept. 16, 1929 in Le Mars. They lived and farmed in the Westfield area from 1929-32, in the Brurisville area from 1932-38, and in the Akron area from 1938-52. In 1952 they moved into Akron and retired. Mr. Toben died in January 1983.
Survivors include one brother, Herman Berg of Hemet, Calif.; two sisters, Ida Marienau and Rose Berg, both of Hawarden; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Emma Plueger and Minnie Tobolt, and one brother, Karl Berg.
