Wayne Waterman, 102, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Akron, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007 at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron. Pastor Alan Wicks and Pastor Carla Nelson will officiate. Inurnment will be at Union Creek Lutheran Cemetery at 11:10 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church and during a time of lunch and fellowship. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Wayne Waterman was born April 16, 1904 in Thurston, Nebraska, the son of Jerome and Mary Ellen (Soule) Waterman. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. As a child he lived near Thurston and Walthill, Nebraska, rural Sioux City and rural Akron. He attended country schools near Salix, Westfield and Akron. As a young man he moved to Omaha, Nebraska and then moved to Akron. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Ericson on June 23, 1934 at Union Creek Lutheran Church in Union County, South Dakota. After they were married, they lived in Sioux City. While there, Wayne worked for Albertson’s (Sioux Tools) as a foreman. In 1950, they moved to Hawarden. He worked as a service manager for Truesdell Motors. In 1955, the couple moved back to Akron and owned and operated Waterman’s Market. After selling the business, he was the service manager for Dirk’s Motor in Akron. He retired in 1970 and Wayne and Evelyn started wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Wayne wintered in Mesa for 34 years at Mon Dak. He celebrated his 100th birthday in Mesa and then sold his mobile and moved to Sioux City. Recently, he was a resident of Northern Hills Assisted Living in Sioux City. His wife passed away August 14, 1996.

He was a longtime member of Union Creek Lutheran Church. He loved golfing and was a pioneer member of the Akron Golf Course. He also enjoyed exercising and was still going to exercise classes at Northern Hills at the time of his death. He will also be remembered for his love of music and singing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his three children: Warren Waterman and his wife Marge of Mesa, Arizona, Carole Heider and her husband Jon of Sioux City, Iowa, and Linda Wayman and her husband Ron of Sioux City, Iowa; six grandchildren: Brad Heider and his wife Lauri, Jennifer Freese and her husband Shane, Courtney Waterman-Meyer and her husband John, Andrea Bridgers and her husband Stuart, Guy Wayman and his fiancé Micki Lillie, and Rob Wayman; seven great-grandchildren: Amanda and Kelbey Heider, Cody and Kaitlyn Freese, Emmalyn and Maggie Meyer, and Aidan Bridgers; sister-in-law: Miriam Enockson of Sioux City, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, five brothers; and five sisters and brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Brad, Jennifer, Courtney, Andrea, Guy and Rob.

Memorials can be made in Wayne’s name to Union Creek Lutheran Church.
