ESTEEMED WOMAN CALLED TO REWARD THURSDAY EVENING

Mrs. Katherine Zachow Had Resided Near Here Since Early Youth

The community was greatly shocked and grieved by the sudden death of Mrs. Katherine Zachow at her home, southwest of town, on Thursday evening, July 26, 1945. Sim had previously appeared to be well, although she had sought medical care a few days before. Her son, Edward, returned from a neighbor's and found she had passed away from a heart attack.

Katherine Margarete Eden, daughter of Gorrner and Adele Eden, was born February 20, 1878, at Morrison, Whiteside County, Illinois, and at, tallied the age of 67 years, 5 months, and 6 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Her early life was spent in Illinois and she came to Akron, Iowa, with the family in her teen age. On March 5, 1896, she was united in marriage with Christian Zachow at Akron, Iowa. They farmed in South Dakota for eight years and then moved to Le Mars, Iowa, living: there six years. In 1910 the family moved buck to Union County, Richland Township, S. D., where she made her home until her death. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Zachow five daughters and one son.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Fred Thiel, who passed away in 1920, and her husband, who passed away six weeks ago.

Left to mourn her departure are four daughters and one son: Mrs. Charley Larson, Plaza, N. D.; Mrs. Elmer W. Anderson, Spink, S. D.; Mrs. Ralph Fickbohm Alcester, S. D.; Mrs. Carrol Hamilton, Hawarden Ia., and Edward Zachow, at home; fifteen
grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Dick Johnson, of Manlins, New York, and Mrs. Bertha Kleilmuer, of Akron, Iowa; three brothers, Fred Eden, of Alpena, S. D.; John Eden, of Alcester, S. D., and Frank Eden, of Akron, Iowa; also by many nieces and nephews.

A kind and devoted mother and grandmother, a helpful neighbor and true friend, she will be greatly missed and mourned by a host of friends, who extend sympathy to the family in their bereavement. Funeral services were held Monday,
July 30, at the family home at 1:45 p. in., and at 2:30 o'clock in Trinity Lutheran church, Akron, Rev. H. F. Stief officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Peter Erickson, Reuben Wennblom, Oscar Oake, Joseph Appley, Norman Anderson and John Sand.
