Mrs. Milton (Gertrude "Toni")Schmitt, 72, of Remsen died Friday, Aug. 28,1992, at the Happy Siesta Retirement Home after a lengthy illness.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Remsen, with Rev. John J. McGuirk officiating. Burial was at the parish cemetery. Visitation was Sunday with a Christian Mothers Catholic Daughters rosary and a vigil prayer service at the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Mrs. Schmitt was born Dec. 30, 1919, at Le Mars, daughter of Mathias and Mary (Kramer) Ruba. She grew up in the Le Mars/Oyens area and attended St. Catherine's Grade School at Oyens. She graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1938. She married Milton Schmitt on Feb. 14,1939, at Oyens. They farmed in the Remsen area and retired on the farm in 1979. She had lived at Happy Siesta since May 13,1992. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and their wives, Marvin and Donna, Kenneth and Marilyn, all of Remsen, and Ronald and Diane of Le Mars; a daughter and her husband, LaVonne Schmitt- Gordon and Allen Gordon of Boulder, Colo.; six grandchildren; two brothers, Mathias Ruba of Hayward, Calif., and Norbert Ruba of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roman, Edwin and Clarence; five sisters, Mrs. Floyd (Leona) Smith, Mrs. Frank (Mildred) Schierholt, Mrs. Roman (Celesta) Wanderscheid and Mrs. Vernon (Coletta) Lewis, and Rita Mae Ruba, who died in infancy.
