Alberta I. Matkin, 76. Sioux City, formerly of Akron, died Saturday (Jan. 20, 1990) in a Sioux City hospital following a short illness.
A memorial service was held Tuesday in the Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home. Dr. Charles E. Mason, associate pastor of First United Methodist church, officiated. Burial will be at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
Alberta Matkin, the former Alberta Johnson, was born Oct. 15, 1913, in Rock Rapids, la., to Albert W. and Abbie (Harden) Johnson. She lived most of her life in the Akron area, before moving to Sioux City. She was a 1931 graduate of Akron Community high school. She graduated from nursing school at Morningside College in Sioux City. She worked as a registered nurse at Methodist and St. Vincent hospitals in Sioux City, retiring in 1969. She was a former member of Wesley United Methodist church at Akron and served as a nurse during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Albert "Skip" Matkin and his wife, Laine of Valencia, Calif.; a son, Thomas Matkin of Westmont, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Paula Matkin of Hailey, Idaho, and four grandchildren.
