Mrs. Edwin (Maxine) Ludwig, 60, Remsen, formerly of Hawarden, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 1989, in a Sioux City hospital of a long illness.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. Rev. John J. McGuirk and Deacon Joe Maher of Hawarden officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under, direction of the Fisch funeral home of Remsen.
Mrs. Ludwigs, the former Maxine Case, was born June 23, 1929, at Remsen, daughter of George and Alma Thiel Case. She was raised and educated in the Remsen area and graduated from Union School in 1947. She married Edwin Ludwig, Feb. 13, 1950 at Remsen. The couple farmed near Remsen until 1958 when they moved to Merrill where she worked at Michalosky Steak House. In 1969, they moved to Hawarden where they owned and operated the Dari-Cream Drive In until 1979. They also owned and operated Hat City Lounge in Hawarden from 1977 to 1983. Mr. Ludwig died Dec. 1, 1981, and she returned to Remsen in August 1987. She was employed at Wells Dairy in Le Mars until her illness. Mrs. Ludwig was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include a son, Pat of Lincoln, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Barb) Staab of Remsen, Miss Lori Ludwig of Chandler, Ariz., and Mrs. Vera Ludwig of Sioux City; three grandsons, Matt, Jeff, and Russ Staab all of Remsen; two sisters, Mrs. Arlie (Aileen) Grage of Marcus, and Mrs. Wesley (Marian) Bierman of Pier son.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a son, Guy on June 24, 1979.
