William J. Ludwigs, 82, Sioux City, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1992, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.
Services were held Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church with Rev. Richard W. Pingel officiating. Burial was in Graceland Park cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Monahan Post 64, American Legion, under direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Ludwigs was born June 23, 1910, in Chatsworth, Iowa, the son of William H. and Clara (Brabander) Ludwigs. He grew in Chatsworth. He married Helen E. Rosenow Dec. 2, 1930, in Akron. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1935, where he was a meat manager for many years at Sunshine Food Market, retiring in 1970. Mrs. Ludwigs died May 22, 1978, in Sioux City.
Mr. Ludwigs was a member of Concordia Lutheran church, Monahan Post 64, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Shull Post 580. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Mississippi in the South Pacific during World War II.
Survivors include a son, William J. Ludwigs Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters and their husbands, Frances and Richard Brzuchalski, Karen and Loren Krommenhoek and Vicki and Norbert Kemp, all of Sioux City; two brothers, Fred Ludwigs and his wife, Lucille of Stranton, Iowa, and Arthur Ludwigs of Sioux City; three sisters, Louise Lubben of Le Mars, Iowa, Rose Johnson of Hawarden, Iowa, and Clara Kluver of Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Mae; an infant brother; and two sisters, Ann and Edna.
Pallbearers were Mark Chmelka, Rick Brzuchalski, Michael Krommenhoek, Jeremiah Krommenhoek, Larry Ludwigs and Rodney Ludwigs.
