Lois Lucile Benedict, 88, of La Cross, Wis., died peacefully Monday, Aug. 16, 2010. at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

Lois Lucile Benedict was born May 3, 1922, in Kingsley, the daughter of Elizabeth E. (Karrer) and Harry Kinzey.

Lois married Lester E. Benedict Nov. 11, 1944. Lester died Jan. 20, 1990.

Lois loved to dance, also square danced for 30 years.

She worked doing office work and a bookkeeper for many years.

She was an artistic person with crafts, knit, crochet, seamstress and oil painting.

She served as treasurer for Concordia Ballroom on the board of trustees. Also served on the board of South Side Senior Citizen Center for a number of years.

She was a Cub Scout leader, Brownie leader (started a Brownie Troop in Holmen, Wis.) and was a Girl Scout leader in La Crescent, Minn., for 5 years.

Lois is survived by her son, Brian L. (Bonita K.) Benedict of Mooresville, Ind.; daughter, Rebecca E. (Tapendra Sinha) Benedict of Mexico City; grandchildren, Nichole (Dave) Hammett, Keene (Erin) Benedict; a sister, Virginia (Norbert) Gotto; step-daughter, Wanda M. (J. Kenneth) Peterie of Blue Springs, Mo.; a grand love in her life, Ira Brown and his family; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Steven Antone Benedict in October 1951; parents; and brother, Clyde Kinzey.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 721 King St., La Crosse, Wis. The Rev. Ellen Rasmussen will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
