AKRON, Iowa -- Mark D. "Mac" McPherson, 55, of Modesto Calif., formerly of Akron, died peacefully April 11, 2010 after a short illness of cancer.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Dawn Quame officiating.

Mark was born in San Rafael, Calif., on March 31,1955, the son of Vivian and the late Don McPherson. He graduated from Akron High School in 1973.

He was an avid chess player and liked to square dance and sing barbershop quartet. He helped to restore the "Ye Old Opera House" now ACT while in high school. He enjoyed traveling and criss-crossed the United States, including Alaska many times.

He is survived by his mother, Vivian; one brother, David of Lake Dillon, Colo.; three sisters, Nancy of Burnsville, Minn., Karen (Bill) Robak and children, Hayden and Holly, of Indianola, Iowa, and Dawn (Clint) McKee and children, Ellyn, Tori and Josie of Hawarden, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church organ fund, Akron, Hospice of Siouxland or the charity of your choice.
