Dernell R. Swift, 75, Sioux City, died Saturday, May 23, 1992, at a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services were Tuesday at Augustana Lutheran Church. Rev. Brenda Pierson-Pfeifly officiated. Burial was at the Oakland, Neb. Cemetery, under direction of Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
Pallbearers were Robert Wright, Robert Moseman, Gene Johnson, Dave Schold, Barrie Swift and Tom Miller.
Mr. Swift was born March 18, 1917, in Akron, la. He attended Akron schools and graduated from Akron High, School in, 1935.. He was then employed with the CCC Camp for three years. He married Linnea Malmgren Sept. 1, 1940, in Oakland, Neb. He was a maintenance employee for Buick Motor Co. in Chicago for three years. He came to Sioux City in 1948 and was a maintenance worker for Armour & Co. for 18 years; Floyd Valley Packing Co. for five years; and IBP Inc. for 17 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, where he was a former board member. He was a member of Morningside Lodge 615 AF&AM and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis D. and his wife, Kay of St. Louis, Mo., and David of Rosemont, Minn.; a granddaughter, Sara Swift, and a grandson, Matthew Swift, both of St. Louis; and a sister-in-law Doris Anderson of Oakland.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Bennett; and a brother, Lowell. Memorials may be made in his name to Augustana Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society Or Easter Seals.
