Mrs. J. H. Walkup Succumbs to Illness

Mrs. J. H. Walkup, 77, a resident of Plymouth County for fifty-eight years, died Monday afternoon at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Dwight Riter. She had been in failing health for several years.

Mozzemma Driesbach was born at Paris, Ill., June 16, 1867, and came to Iowa when a young girl, with her parents, who settled near Marshalltown. She was married to J. H. Walkup in 1886, and they came to Plymouth County and farmed near Crathorne for a short time and then settled on a farm in Elgin township. They moved to Seney in 1920. Mrs. Walkup passed away in 1924 and their daughter, Hazel, in 1923. She leaves three grandchildren: Evan Anstine of Culver City, Calif.; Mrs. Dwight Riter of Seney, and Willard Anstine in the Army, who is stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Walkup was a member of the Seney Methodist church and a teacher in the Sunday School, and was president of the Ladies Aid for a number of years. She was active in community affairs and enjoyed the esteem of a large number.

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Seney Methodist church, Rev. M. L. Metcalf of Kingsley officiating. The pallbearers, old friends and neighbors, were Wm. Henrich, Wm. Rees, Wm. Reeves, Wm. Hawkins, John Alderson, and Elam Chapman.

The Mauer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The community mourns the loss of an esteemed friend with the passing away of Mrs. J. H. Walkup. Mrs. Walkup spent the past few years in the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Dwight Riter, who cared for her faithfully. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon.
