Dwight R. Brown, 66, lifelong Westfield, Iowa, resident, died Wednesday (May 10, 1989) in a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Westfield Congregational church. Rev. Norman McCallum officiated. "The Lord's Prayer" and "How Great Thou Art", were sung by Shirley Banks, accompanied by Sheryl Banks, pianist. Burial was in Pleasant Valley cemetery at Adaville, under direction of Schroeder funeral home of Akron.
Pallbearers were Terry Morehead, Paul Bringman, Karl Jans, Lou Conway, Gaylord Lahr, and Robert Klemme.
Mr. Brown was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Westfield, to Reuel and Bernice (Dreeszen) Brown. He married Betty Hammond April 1, 1949, in Le Mars.
He farmed for five years and then worked for A.W. Hummel for 16 years. He started working for Thermogas of Akron in 1970, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Brown served on the Westfield Congregational church board for many years and was a former member of the Westfield school board.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of Westfield; a daughter, Mrs. Dale (Carolyn) Harkness of Richland, S.D.; a son, Russ of Cherokee; six grandchildren; one brother, Wallace of Westfield; a half-sister, Mrs. William (Sandra) Mackey of Chatsworth, Calif.; and his step-mother, Lyda Brown of Culver City, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
