SERGEANT BLUFF -- Louise Jeanette Mattas, 88, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Floyd House Assisted Living in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 350 Main Street, Akron, Iowa, with Neil Peck, C.L.S., officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.
Louise Jeanette Mattas was born Oct. 26, 1917, near Hinton, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Ellen (Taylor) Funk.
On Oct. 8, 1941, she married Joseph "Jack" Mattas in Dakota City. Louise worked as a nurse's aide at the Brentwood Nursing Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Later, she worked at the Westwood Nursing and Rehab and then retired from Casa De Paz Nursing Home.
After her retirement, you could find Louise crocheting, playing bingo or rummy, but her greatest joys were spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Lonny and her husband, Daryl Myers of Akron and Beverly Mattas of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Robert Myers of Akron, Shawn Myers of Akron, Nicole and her husband, Kenny Cakebread of Sergeant Bluff, Jay Myers of Akron, Danielle and her husband, R.J. Stowe of Dakota City, Dawn and her husband, Michael Twohig of Sioux City, Jamie Mattas and his wife, Rebecca of Sioux City and Joshua Myers and his wife, Brandi of Akron; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd "Bud" Funk; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1984; a daughter, Joyce, in 1952; a great-granddaughter, Paige Myers, in 2005; a brother, Elmer Funk; and four sisters, Emma "Dolly" Majeres, Berneice Bremer, Kathryn Funk and Alice Funk.
