NIS AHRENDSEN DIES UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE VISITING SON
Nis Ahrendsen, 69, longtime Merrill farmer, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning while visiting at the farm home of a son, Melvin, near Merrill.
Mr. Ahrendsen was born Jan. 12, 1897, at Dogebull, Germany. He came to the United States with his parents as a young man, settling in the Merrill vicinity.
He was married Aug. 24, 1918, to Josephine Karli at Le Mars. The couple farmed near Merrill until 1951 when they retired to Merrill.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran church, Merrill, with Rev. William Funk officiating. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery there under direction of the Luedtke funeral home in Le Mars.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday night at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife Josephine; a son Melvin of Merrill; a daughter, Mrs. Laverne Kurthz, Kingsley; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. William Horeies, Fremont, Neb., and three brothers, Carl, John and Peter, all of Le Mars.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, Bernard in infancy.
