Gene L. Dewey, 69, of Westfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1990, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Sioux City.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at (he Westfield Congregational Church. Rev. Norman A. Mccallum officiated. Soloist was Shirley Banks, who sang "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art", accompanied by Sheryl Banks. Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron, under direction of Schroeder funeral home of Akron. Military graveside rites were conducted by Hoschler Post 186 American Legion of Akron.

Pallbearers were Jim Buryanek, Lauren Frisch, David Lilly, Bob Dreeszen, Bill Griegg, and Larry Pritchett.

Mr. Dewey was born Oct. 10, 1920 in Parker, S.D., the son of Lester and Amelia (Theil) Dewey. The family moved to the Westfield area in 1932.

He attended rural schools in Parker and Westfield areas. He served 2 1/2 years in the U.S. navy during World War II. He married Leone Johnson June 16, 1946, at Westfield. The couple lived in the Westfield area until 1956, when they moved to Sioux City. They moved back to Westfield in 1969. He worked for Swift Independent
Packing Co. in Sioux City for 31 years, retiring in 1983.

Mr. Dewey was a Methodist. He was a member of Hoschler Post 186, American Legion of Akron, and Veterans of Foreign War of Elk Point.

Survivors include his wife, Leone of Westfield; two sons, Chuck and his wife, Janelle, and David, all of Westfield; a daughter, Ione Upton and her husband, Jack of Orange
City; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; his mother, Amelia Dewey of Akron; three brothers, Harvey of Akron, Mahlon of Sumner,
Wash., and Harlyn of Westfield; and a sister, Eileen Franklin of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester, and a brother, Duane.
