Charlene H. Scheitler, 76, of Le Mars, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Good Samaritan Village (Brentwood) in Le Mars.

Charlene H. Scheitler was born Aug, 4, 1930, at Alton, the daughter of Felix and Ann (Pottebaum) Streff. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Alton. On Sept. 18, 1947, Charlene and Ray Scheitler were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. The couple made their home on a farm north of Oyens where they raised their family. Charlene and Ray retired and moved to Le Mars in 1981. Ray died April 6, 1987. Charlene remained in her home until moving to Prime Living Apartments in Le Mars. She would later move to Good Samaritan Village of Le Mars on April 24, 2006.

Charlene was a member of St. James Catholic Church and served on the bereavement committee. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at local nursing homes and hospitals. Charlene enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, flower gardening, and was an excellent cook and baker.

Survivors include her children Bob Scheitler and his wife Becky, Dale Scheitler and his special friend Ellen Clark, Jean Heeren and her husband Dave all of Le Mars, Karen Drum and her husband Steve of Ames, Lori Bohlke and her husband Tony of Le Mars; eight grandchildren Amy Scheitler, Brian Heeren and his wife Heather, Susan Tarantino and her husband Peter, Jesse Scheitler, Ryan Drum, Laura Drum, Tyler Bohlke and Jeremy Bohlke; great-grandchildren Sam and Miranda Heeren; and a sister Stella Frederes of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray; a grandson Jason Heeren; a sister Calista Frederes: brothers Clarence, Vincent, Robert, Clifford, Ervin, Ray and Francis Streff.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Jim Tigges will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. A Rosary service will begin at 4 p.m. with a Scriptural prayer service set for 7:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass.
