OBITUARY
Mrs. Orlie Scranton

Funeral services were held Nov. 13 at the United Methodist church in Plainview, Neb., for Mrs. Orlie (Winifred) Scranton, 71, Laguna Hills, Calif., a former Akron teacher. Mrs. Scranton died Nov. 9, 1976, in Laguna Hills.

Mr. Scranton was superintendent of Akron school from 1953-1964.

Mrs. Scranton, the former Winifred L. Fogler, was born July 6, 1905, at Willard.

She moved to Farmington, Ill., at an early age where she received her elementary education. At 14 she moved to Antelope county, Neb., to live with her sister, Mrs. Catherine Hagey.

She graduated from Neligh high school in 1924, Wayne Teacher’s College in 1928, and received a B.S. degree from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion.

She taught four years in rural school in Antelope and Holt counties, Neb., and in public schools at Battle Creek, Norfolk, St. Paul and Tekamah, Neb. and Akron.

She married Orlie L. Scranton June 6, 1931, in Wayne, Neb. She moved with her husband to Pomona, Calif., in 1964 and taught in the Chino district until 1971, when she retired after 30 years of teaching.

She was a member of the Laguna Hills United Methodist church and chapter CS P.E.O., Pomona, Calif.

Survivors are her husband, Orlie; three sons, Gene of Newark, Calif., James of Iowa City, and William of West Burlington; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Hagey of Chillicothe, Ill., and Mrs. Stuart (Hazel) Wheeler of Canton, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mitchell of Akron attended services for Mrs. Scranton at Plainview.
