SERVICES ARE WEDNESDAY FOR MRS. A. F. MEIS

Mrs. Alphonse (Marcelinda) Meis, 82, a Remsen native and longtime LeMars resident, died Sunday (June 17, 1979) at Plymouth Manor in LeMars where she had made her home the last three years.

Mrs. Meis had been in failing health for several months.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic church with Rev. George McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, LeMars, under the direction of the Luedtke funeral home in LeMars.

The wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and the Catholic Daughters of America rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Six grandsons will act as casket bearers.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Leonard, John, Joseph and Walter and by three sisters, Margaret Braun, Mathilda Petesch and Leona Alesch.

Marcelinda Alesch was born March 24, 1897, at Remsen to John and Margaret Wenner Alesch. She married Alphonse Meis June 27, 1922, at St. Mary’s church, Remsen. Mr. Meis preceded her in death in 1963.

She had lived all her married life in LeMars.

The family established the A. F. Meis grocery and later the Meis Seed and Feed store and Good Morning Mills.

Survivors are four sons, Mark, Richard and David Meis, all of LeMars, and Larry, of Hamilton, Mont.; two daughters, Mrs. N. P. (Alene) Scallon, of Beaumont, Tex., and Mrs. James (Mary Ann) Rawley, Littleton, Colo. There are 34 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Alesch, Marcus, and Lawrence of Alton; two sisters, Mrs. George (Elvira) Schnepf, LeMars, and Mrs. Lee (Marie) Wendt of Marcus.
