Robert "Bob"Adkins, 82, of Creston, formerly of Yuma, Ariz., died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.
Robert Lee Adkins, the son of Harvey Adkins and Stella (Stanton) Adkins was born Aug. 17, 1927 in Alexandria, S.D. He was educated in Alexandria schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy from 1944 until his medical discharge in 1946.
Bob was united in marriage to Janet Patricia Krier April 28, 1949, in Estherville. They first settled in Estherville, where Bob worked at Supersweet Feeds until transferring to Le Mars in 1962. He continued working with Supersweet Feeds as a truck driver.
Later, Bob worked with Chesterman Coca Cola, retiring in 1990 to Yuma, Ariz. They had just moved to Creston.
Robert was a member of the St. John Newmann Catholic Church in Yuma and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge
Bob is survived by his wife Janet Adkins of Creston; two daughters, Patricia (Bob Wiederholt) Wagaman of Ankeny and Nancy (husband Jim) Anthony of Creston; and a son, Mike (wife Treasa) Adkins of Casa Grande, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (wife Donna) Adkins of Spearfish, S.D.; one sister, Opal (husband Allen) Terveen of Emery, S.D.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lawrence.
Memorial services will be at a later date. There will be no formal visitation time scheduled. The Powers Funeral Home of Creston is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the Creston Animal Rescue Effort or the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.
