Mary A. Dutcher, 90, of Le Mars, and formerly of Des Moines, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Mary Anna Ambos was born Sept. 19, 1919, at Council Bluffs, the daugher of William and Hattie (McGaffin) Ambos. Mary graduated from North High School, Des Moines, and later attended Drake University in Des Moines. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Dutcher May 11, 1941, at Brooklyn, N.Y., while he was in the service.
Mary assisted her husband with the operation and management of Dutcher Stockyards in Des Moines. The couple had lived in Des Moines and Carlisle. In 1978, Mary and Lawrence moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where they lived until 2003 when they returned to Urbandale. Lawrence died Aug. 17, 2007.
In May 2008, Mary moved to Le Mars to be closer to her son, Bruce Dutcher.
Mary was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Des Moines, a member of the P.E.O. in Des Moines, and the Des Moines Women's Club.
Survivors include three children and families: a son, Bruce Dutcher and his wife, Betty, of Le Mars and their children, Andrea (Michael) Capizzi, Renee (Robbie) Tatum, Hilary Dutcher, Kathy (Ron) Frazer, Kevin (Tonya) Jackson, Rebecca Lopez, and Todd Jackson; two daughters, Barbara Dutcher of Florida and her son, Andrew Dutcher, and Nancy Dutcher-Cahn and her husband, Steve Cahn of St. Mary's, Ga.; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Glen Ambos.
A Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Park Place Estates with the Rev. Dan Krause of the Le Mars Assembly of God officiating. Additional services and inurnment at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa will be held later this summer.
