Henry Baack

Henry F. Baack, Craig, Iowa passed away Friday morning at 1:30 o'clock at the Hawarden hospital after a short sickness. He suffered a stroke on Thursday morning. Mr. Baack reached the age of 83 years, 11 months and 16 days. He was the son of Fritz Baack and his wife, Julia, nee Winterfeld. Deceased was born on April 23, 1871, in Clayton county, Iowa. He was the youngest
child of 5 children, namely, Fred Baack, deceased; Mrs. John (Rieka) Klohs, deceased; Mrs. Nick (Mary) Rees. deceased; and 1 brother, who died in infancy. Mr. Baack was baptized in early infancy in the Lutheran faith.

On April 18, 1886, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Pastor Fred Bunger of Christ Lutheran church. On April 17, 1895, he was united in holy matrimony with Alvina Schulz by Pastor E. Riedel, pastor of the Lutheran church in Sioux county. They were blessed with three children, 2 sons and 1 daughter, William of Craig, Henry and Mrs. Mathilda Hanstein of Struble.

Mr. and Mrs. Baack celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in April, 1945. Mr. Baack came to Reading township, Sioux county, at the age of 2 years, and settled on a farm northwest of Struble. Here they lived until the year of 1926, when they moved to his present home in Craig. He joined St. John's Lutheran church in Craig, and attended services regularly.

Survivors include the 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Deceased was preceded in death by his wife in Dec. 1948.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran church in Craig today. Monday, April 11 at 2 o'clock. Pastor Eldor Fruehling of Christ Lutheran church in Grant Twp. officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery in Craig. Pallbearers were: Henry Fett, Henry Eilers, Henry Hillrichs. Henry Ludwigs, Ed Schuette and John Schmidt.
