CHATSWORTH, Iowa -- Charles "Chuck" Hendricks, 100, of Chatsworth passed away Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at Hillcrest Health Care.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Akron Church of Christ in Akron, Iowa, with Pastor Tom Steele officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church.
Charles Davis Hendricks was born Oct. 30, 1906, on the family farm in Union County, S.D., the son of John and Amanda (Davis) Hendricks. He attended Mount Hope country school in South Dakota. At the age of 14, he moved with his family to Chatsworth, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Jessie Dierksen on June 23, 1926, in Sioux Falls, S.D. They made their home in Chatsworth for more than 75 years. Chuck worked as a farmhand early in his life before he started a general painting business. He was in the painting business for more than 50 years. At the age of 89, he retired and passed the business on to his grandson, Kerry Small. In May 2004, he and his wife moved to Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden. His wife passed away May 30, 2004.
He was a devoted member of the Akron Church of Christ, where he received the honor of being a lifetime deacon. He also served as a trustee and the chairman of the board. He was also active in the town of Chatsworth, where he had served as a mayor, police chief and a council member. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, fishing, and while in the nursing home, playing bingo. He and his family had just celebrated his 100th birthday at the nursing home. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
