Death of Mrs. Henry Popken
Mrs. Henry Popken passed away at her home here in Chatsworth Tuesday following an illness of several months. Mrs. Popken was a sufferer from asthma and had been in failing health since last summer.
Funeral services will be held in the Lutheran church in Preston, township, Plymouth county at 2 o'clook Friday afternoon with Rev. Meske and Rev. Meyer in charge. Burial will be made in the cemetery at the Preston township church
Frederika Held was born in Jever, Germany, March, 5, 1867, and passed away Jan. 11, 1938, at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 6 days. She grew to young womanhood in Germany and was married there to Henry Popken July 1, 1888. They came to America in 1912, locating in Plymouth county. They continued to live on the farm until 1930 when they came to Chatsworth and she made her home here continuously since that time. She was confirmed in the Lutheran church while she resided in Germany, and remained faithful to her church until the end.
Besides her husband, she is survived by eight children. Otto and Fred Popken, Mrs. Eliere Johnson, Mrs. Freda Popken, Mrs. Marie Vanderhamm and Mrs. Augusta Buehre of Akron, Anna Popken. of Chatworth, and Mrs. Martha Molzen of LeMars. There are 16 grandchildren. Sincere sympathy is extended to the husband and children in the loss of a devoted and beloved wife and mother.
