Richard J. Popken, Chatsworth, 85, died Sunday (August 14, 1977) at the Hawarden Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. David Roy officiating. Burial was in the Craig Cemetery. There was a prayer service at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Popken was born Oct. 30,1891, in Germany. He farmed west of Le Mars for many years, moving to Chatsworth in 1961.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Kaufmann and Mrs. Lois Ream, both of Sioux City, a son, Wallace of Sioux City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, five brothers, John of Akron, George of Willimington, Del., Fred of Ireton, Elmer of Hudson, S.D., and William of Le Mars; and four sisters, Mrs. Theresa Rholfs of Randolph, Neb. Mrs. Freida Gillam of Carthage: S.D., Mrs. Katherine Bloomquist of Magnat, Neb. and Mrs. Matilda Lamoureux of Akron.
