Paul K. Otterson, 51, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Paul Kenneth Otterson was born March 13, 1958, at Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of Kenneth Harley and Marion (Cruse) Otterson. He graduated from Sioux Falls Washington High School in 1976. Paul continued his education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and earned a bachelor of arts degree in printmaking in 1980. He worked at various jobs in the Sioux Falls area after college.
On March 16, 1991 Paul and Janis Skyberg were united in marriage at Sioux Falls, S.D. They moved to Le Mars in 1993 and opened Einstein's Video, which they operated for the next 11 years.
In 2000, Paul earned an associate degree in electronics from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. Paul took a position with Wells' Dairy as a maintenance technician. He worked for Wells' Dairy for the next eight years.
Paul spent his spare time as an artist and used various mediums. He also liked working crossword puzzles, kayaking, and target shooting.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Janis, of Le Mars; his daughters, Holly Boe, of Sergeant Bluff, Nicole Mayrose and her husband Jeremy, of Le Mars, Jade Otterson, of Sioux City, Audrey Otterson, of Sioux City and Paige Otterson, of Le Mars; four grandchildren Brooklyn, Kaden, Kasia and Noah; his mother, Marion Otterson, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Cathy Stringfield and her husband Jim, of New Richland, Minn.; two brothers, Tim Knowlton and his wife Kathleen, of Littleton, Colo., and Jeff Knowlton and his wife Jean of Sioux Falls, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home, of Le Mars. The Rev. Jason Larson will officiate. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and will continue until service time.
