RAY SMITH

Ray Smith, whose home was on 7th Ave. SW passed away Saturday, January 31, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars following a week’s sickness.

Mr. Smith was taken to the hospital Wednesday in critical condition. The children were called home to be at his bedside.

Ray Smith was born March 13, 1912, in LeMars. He lived his entire life here and had been employed the past several years as janitor in the LeMars public schools. He was 40 years, 9 months, and 18 days old.

On September 13, 1950, he was united in marriage to the Phyllis Peebles in LeMars. Four children were born to this union.

Funeral services were held today, Monday, February 2, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Johns American Lutheran Church with Rev. L.L. Belk officiating. Burial was in the LeMars City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis; 2 sons, Sgt. Ronald Smith with the U.S. Airforce stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Ray Smith of Hawarden; two daughters, Mrs. Herman Kowalke of Kingsley and Janice at home; one grandchild and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith of LeMars.

Remains were at the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home until service time.
