Rites Held Thursday for Emil J. Becker, Former Policeman

Emil J. Becker, 64, resident of LeMars for a quarter century, died Monday afternoon, November 5, 1951, at Sacred Heart hospital (LeMars) after a year's illness. He had entered the hospital five weeks ago after receiving treatment at the State University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 8 at 2 p.m. at St. John's American Lutheran church with Rev. L. L. Belk officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery with Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home in charge.

Mr. Becker, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Becker, was born October 23, 1887, in Sioux county near Ireton. He farmed near Hawarden and Struble for nine years after his marriage to Lena Eilers in LeMars January 17, 1912.

After farming in Nebraska six years, the couple moved to LeMars 25 years ago. Mr. Becker was a member of the LeMars police force for five years, Sept. 1938 to Feb. 1943 and more recently was a clerk at the Iowa Liquor store.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Darlene) Barcus of Ouray, Colorado., two brothers and five sisters; Mrs. E. B. Carlson of Idaho Falls, Idaho: Mrs. M. M. Harrison of Storm Lake; H. D. Becker of Madison, S.D,; Miss Norma Becker of Des Moines and Mrs. John Brangwin, Miss Lillian Becker and A. R. Becker all of LeMars.
