Monica Brynjulson, 52, of Le Mars passed away suddenly Monday, October 19, 2009 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church, in Le Mars, Iowa with Father Matt Hewitt officiating. Visitations will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Carlsen Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends after 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Memorial can be directed to the Siouxland Humane Society, 1015 Tri-View Ave., Sioux City, IA 51103.
Casket bearers will be Eric Brynjulson, Ben Bauman, Mike Bauman, Daniel Feldman, Joshua Feldman, Steven Feldman, and Jacob Browning. Honorary casket bearers will be Tony Brynjulson and Dillon Brynjulson.
Monica Sue Bauman was born June 15, 1957 to Harvey and Marlyss (Sheely) Bauman at Mitchell, South Dakota. Monica attended elementary schools in Ringsted and Sheldon, Iowa. She graduated from Sheldon High School with the Class of 1975. During her high school years, Monica worked as a nursing assistant at the Sheldon Hospital and Nursing Home. She later moved to Sioux Falls and attended a vocational school were she received her Certified Nursing Assistant credentials.
Monica was united in marriage to Rick Brynjulson on May 29, 1982 at Hope Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. While living in Sioux Falls, Monica worked as a CNA for Sioux Valley Hospital for 16 years and also Lutheran Manor Nursing Home for 10 years. She also provided day care in her home for several years. For the past 10 years Monica worked for Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars as a CNA and assisted with other clerical duties as needed. Caring for people was a very important part of Monica’s life; at her death she was caring for others at work.
Monica and Richard belonged to Christ The King Catholic Church while living in Sioux Falls and for the past 11 years have belonged to St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Monica enjoyed cross-stitching, reading, collecting tea-pots and her extensive penguin collection. Her grandson Cooper was her latest and best hobby.
Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Richard Brynjulson of Le Mars, Iowa; 2 children, Zachary Brynjulson and Jannie Sitzmann and their son Cooper Scott Brynjulson of Le Mars and Kyle Brynjulson of Gainesville, Florida; her parents, Harvey and Marlyss (Sheely) Bauman of Sheldon, IA; 5 siblings: Melissa and Dan Cook and their daughter Chantell of Boise, Idaho, Eric and Sherri Bauman and their children Ben, Mike, Jack, and Sophie of Le Mars, Marcia Feldman and her children Daniel, Joshua, and Steven of Sheldon, Brad and Renee Bauman and their daughter Rebecca of Florahome, FL., and Aaron Bauman and his children Jacob and Jerilyn; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harlan and Dorothy Brynjulson of Canton, SD; 2 brothers-in-law, Glenn and Jennifer Brynjulson and their children daughter Kerri of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Dave and Linda Brynjulson and their children Eric, Tony, Kayla, and Dillon of Hartford, South Dakota.
Monica was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joshua Ian Bauman; grandparents, Ben and Edith Bauman and Austin and Agnes Sheely; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Bauman.
