CABAZON, Calif. -- Francis Carl "Sonny" Schultz, 88, of Cabazon, Calif., and formerly of Le Mars, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning, Calif.

Francis Carl Schultz was born Aug. 17, 1916, in Le Mars, the son of Frank and LouElla (Mead) Schultz. He was raised in the Le Mars area, graduated from Le Mars High School, then enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On June 14, 1952, Francis and Genevieve Harms were united in marriage at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brunsville. They made their home in rural Le Mars and most recently in Cabazon, Calif.

Francis worked road construction for many years. He was later self-employed in California and at his retirement was employed by Plymouth County.

Francis loved to travel and took many trips with his wife, Genevieve. He was an avid reader and loved to fish and hunt. Family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also kept a very close relationship with his sisters and brothers.

His memory will be cherished by his family.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Genevieve, of Cabazon, Calif.; a son, John Schultz of Salt Lake City, Utah; three daughters, Mary Helton and her husband, Kevin, of Riverside, Caif., Susan Erskine of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Janette Woodall and her husband, Bill, of Lake Park; seven grandchildren, Tony Marquez, Sydnee Helton, Katie Herbst, Bryan and Danielle Erskine, Justin and Jade Wodall; three great-grandchildren, AshLee, Drew and Aspen Woodall; two sisters, Bette Harvey and Bonnie Steel, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; three brothers, Robert Schultz of Bakersfield, Lloyd Schultz of Tehachapi, Calif., and Dale Schultz of Rapid City, S.D.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 17, at Wiefels & Sons Memorial Chapel in Banning, Calif. Burial was in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif., with full military graveside honors.

Pallbearers were Jade Woodall, Bryan Erskine, Tony Marquez, Kevin Helton, Michael Harvey and Will Leahy.
