YANKTON, S.D. -- LaVonne A. Rolfs, age 81, of Yankton, S.D. died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Yankton, with Rev. David Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, Columbus, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Tuesday afternoon.

Visitations will be 5-9 p.m., Monday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a scripture service and video tribute at 7:00 p.m. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Dave Schieffer, Bob Jaster, Doug Schieffer, Brian Jaster, Dean Valentine and Van Zahrbock. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters and step-grandchildren.

LaVonne Jaster Rolfs was born on Jan. 2, 1928, to Ernest and Minnie (Langelett) Gabel at Akron, Iowa. She was born and raised on a farm near Akron and attended school in Akron. She married Emil Jaster on Sept. 26, 1945, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in LeMars where she worked at the Wayside Inn several years until she and her husband quit farming. In 1960, they moved to Columbus, and owned and operated their own restaurant until 1966. She worked at Jack and Jill until 1971 when they moved to Crofton. Following Emil's death in 1981, she moved to Yankton and worked at White Drug for many years until retirement. LaVonne married her second husband, Clarence Rolfs on June 11, 1983, in Yankton. She lived for her family and was a very loving and giving person. She never finished a conversation without saying "God Bless You."

LaVonne's memory will be cherished by her daughter, Darlene Schieffer of Yankton; and sons, Darwin (Bernie) Jaster of Columbus, Darius Jaster of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Daryl Jaster of Yankton; brother, Eldon Gabel of Akron, Iowa; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emil Jaster; second husband, Clarence Rolfs; son, Darcy Jaster; brothers, Donald and Virgil Gabel; granddaughter, Barbara Jaster; and step-daughter, Jean Hunhoff; as well as other half-brothers and half-sisters.

The family wishes for memorials to be directed to: Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 403 Broadway Ave., Yankton, S.D. 57078.
