Michael David Ahlers, 29, of Remsen, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, near Kingsley, as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident.

Michael was born April 14, 1980, in Sioux City, the son of David and Lynn (Langel) Ahlers. He was raised in Remsen and baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. He attended Remsen-Union Community School graduating in 1999. Michael attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, starting in November 1999 until he graduated in May 2001 with a degree in diesel mechanics. During his college years, Michael worked part-time for Spencer International as a Farm Equipment Tech.

Upon graduation, he worked full time for Spencer International until September 2002. He then moved back to Remsen and started working for Vern Anderson Equipment in Le Mars from October 2002 until November 2006. Michael transferred to Titan Machinery in Kingsley as the shop foreman in November 2006, the position he held at the time of his death. Michael received many awards and certificates for his trade throughout the years.

In June 2007 Michael became the proud owner of an acreage north of Remsen. He worked long hours making his acreage a home.

He enjoyed being with family and friends; boating at Okoboji and Round Lake; taking trips down Apple River; attending car shows; camping; playing mud volleyball; helping farmers; working on his '67 Impala; and working with his dad and uncles on various projects on the farm. Michael was the "Go-To-Guy" who enjoyed everything.

Michael was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include his parents, Dave and Lynn (Langel) Ahlers of Remsen; sister Erin Pick and her husband, Chris, of Le Mars, sister Nicole Ahlers and her special friend, John Snyder, of Wayne, Neb., brother Jeremy Ahlers of Remsen; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Norma Ahlers of Remsen; aunts and uncles, Fred and Faye Ahlers, Danny Ahlers, Margaret Mary Tucker, Christine and Scott Nielsen, Barb and Dennis Henrich, Phil and Teryl Ahlers, Gary and Cindy Langel, Tom and Kathy Langel, Sue and Merle Huls, Bruce and Kim Langel; and many close cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Vic and Toots Langel and cousin Todd Huls.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. today (Wednesday). There will be a rosary at 5 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen.

Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers will be Tom Huls, Kyle Wurth, Curt Christoffel, Jake Walgenbach, Greg Wurth, Mark Mohning, Jeff Felts, Tim Britt, Neal Wurth, and Dusty Heitmann. Honorary bearers will be Doug Tucker, Tyler Huls, Jesse Anthony, Titan Machinery employees and the Kingsley Crowd.
