Ruth Ann Horton, 96, of Le Mars, formerly of Merrill, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Ruth Ann Horton was born April 11, 1910, in Sioux City, the daughter of Sally Mae and James Simon Horton Jr. She graduated form Merrill High School. Ruth lived with her mother in Merrill for many years. She later lived with her sister Marie Irwin. On July 10, 1997, Ruth Ann moved to The Abbey of Le Mars. She was a member of the Merrill United Methodist Church.

Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Robert M. and Dolores Irwin of Sioux City, Mary and Jim Strub of Merrill, Connie and Wimer and Frank Fogarty of Des Moines, and Tom and Helen Horton of Gaza, Iowa; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marie Irwin and her husband Milton; a brother, James Simon "Ted" Horton III and his wife Hermina; and a brother, Horace Horton and his wife Irene.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The Rev. Ted Stower of the Merrill United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home and will continue until service time.
