Frank J. Madden, 82, of Le Mars, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Frank Joseph Madden was born April 11, 1924, on the family farm near Kingsley, the son of James M. and Margaret (Bahmer) Madden. Frank was baptized at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley and was later confirmed through Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. When he was a young boy, the Madden family moved to a farm near Westfield. He attended country school near the community of Adaville in western Plymouth County. Frank was united in marriage to Dorothy Husmann on March 28, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Frank and Dorothy farmed near Kingsley from 1951 to 1981 before moving to Le Mars. Frank enjoyed being a farmer and the lifestyle of farming. Frank and Dorothy purchased, remodeled and managed several rental properties throughout the years. Frank enjoyed carpentry and was very mechanical. During retirement, Frank operated a "Fix-It" shop from his home. He was accomplished at repairing bikes, mowers, sewing machines, and many other machines.

Frank was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Le Mars Senior Center where he enjoyed playing cards. In April of 2005, Frank became a resident of the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Madden of Le Mars; two daughters, Linda and her husband Lyle Diekevers of Hospers and Sharleen and her husband David Schlotman of Sioux City; five grandchildren: Dawn and her husband Don DeBoer of Little Rock, Steve and his wife Esther Diekevers of Boyden, Allison Donnell, Amanda Donnell, and Paul Schlotman all of Sioux City; a sister, Darlene Goebel of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Margaret (Bahmer) Madden; two brothers, Clifford and Donald Madden; and three sisters, Irene Schutpelz, Dorothy Delperdang, and Delores Riley.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Friday until service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Diekevers, Don DeBoer, David Schlotman, Lyle Diekevers, Ron Delperdang and Duane Madden.
