Marvin Meis, 66, of Oyens, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Marvin Meis was born Jan. 19, 1943, in Le Mars, the son of Arthur and Christine (Plendl) Meis. Marvin was raised in the Oyens area. He attended school at both St. Catherine Grade School in Oyens and also St. Mary High School in Remsen, graduating in 1961. After school Marvin started farming.

Marvin joined the Army National Guard March 16, 1964, and served until he was honorably discharged May 10, 1968. He was a cattle feeder and loved trips to South Dakota with Butch and Dan plus those short trips to Denison and Dunlap every week in winter.

He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens, American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars, and the Sportsman's Club of Remsen.

Survivors include his parents, Arthur and Christine Meis of Oyens; his brother Dennis and his wife Jan Meis of Le Mars, and their children, Jeff and Jamie Meis, Tammy Petersen, Ryan Meis and Jodi Nori; his brother, Paul and his wife Kathy Meis of Oyens and their children Lindsey and Jared Meis; his sister Kathy and her husband Ed Schumann of Brainard, Minn., and their children Randy, Wade, Darryl, Aaron and Clint Schumann; and his sister, Diane Dunham of Hanson, Mass., and her children Jon Dunham, Christa Oxner and Keene Dunham.

He was preceded in death by a nephew, Dean Meis; and a brother-in-law, Ed Dunham.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Eugene Murray, the Rev. William McCarthy and the Rev. Tim Hogan officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery in Oyens, with graveside military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 both of Remsen and Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars.

Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. today (Thursday). There will be a rosary at 3 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Dan Krier, Jamie Meis, Jeff Meis, Aaron Schumann, Wade Schumann and Nathan Tentinger.
