Marge Molzen, 81, of rural Akron, died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Marge Molzen was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Hawarden, the daughter of Peter Lyle and Ruth (Rifenbark) Thompson. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1945. She worked as a bookkeeper for Rex Truesdell gas station and trucking prior to her marriage to Glenn A. Molzen Jan. 21, 1954, in Hawarden. They lived on the Molzen family farm east of Akron. Glenn died Nov. 16, 1998.
Marge was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Hawarden where she taught Sunday school and was active in circles, prayer groups, and study groups. She also enjoyed bowling in leagues.
She is survived by her son, Mark and wife Danelle of Akron; daughter, Faye Hirt and husband Tracy of Platte, S.D.; brother, Lyle Thompson of Hawarden; two sisters, Millie Bartels of Hawarden and Lura Gayer and husband Robert of Rock Valley; six grandchildren, Haley Molzen and friend Caley Waysman, Ashley Ansah and husband Josh, Ryan Molzen and wife Darci, Chase Hirt, Shane Hirt, and Alexandra Hirt; six great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother-in-law, Al Bartels; and sister-in-law, Jan Thompson.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. The Porter Funeral Home of Hawarden is assisting the family.
