Frances Wells, 90, of Le Mars, died Monday, June 19, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Frances E. Marx was born July 28, 1915, near Ashton, the daughter of Leo and S. Edith (Drummond) Marx. As a young child, Frances moved with her family to a farm near Le Mars. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School. Frances was united in marriage to Harry L. "Mike" Wells on June 22, 1935, in Sioux City. To this union two children were born, Robert and David. Mike and Frances made their home in Sioux City following their marriage. In 1940, the couple returned to Le Mars where Mike continued his career with Wells' Dairy were he was the head plant engineer and plant manager. Frances worked as a bookkeeper for several years.
Frances and Mike enjoyed fishing, primarily at their cabin on Lake of the Woods, near Baudette, Minn. Frances also enjoyed going antiquing, going to auctions, and collecting glassware. She loved to play bridge throughout her life, having played in Bridge Club until last year.
Frances was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church.
Survivors include her son, David and Marilyn Wells of Le Mars; five grandchildren: Mike Wells and his wife Kristin of Cedar Falls, Brian Wells and his wife Wendy of Houston, Texas, Neal Wells and his wife Karen of Portland, Ore., Erik Scott and his wife Melissa of Walla Walla, Wash., and Marc Scott of Kennewick, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and S. Edith (Drummond) Marx; her husband, Harry L. "Mike" on Feb. 19, 1998; and her son, Robert J. "Bob" on Sept. 25, 2005.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Daniel Greving officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Following the committal services, the family invites everyone to join them for a time fellowship and dinner in the Carlsen Family Fellowship Center. Visitation with the family present will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 4 p.m. parish rosary.
