John A. Mayrose, 80, of Le Mars, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

John, the son of Ben and Josephine (Ernster) Mayrose, was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Remsen. He moved with his family to Le Mars where he attended St. Joseph's Catholic School. On Sept. 27, 1952, John married Margaret Jean Neyens at St. Joseph Catholic Church -- Neptune.

He owned and operated Johnny Mayrose Body Shop for more than 50 years, and took great pride in offering a "24 1⁄2" hour towing service.

John was a member of St. James Catholic Church and a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1381.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. Many fond memories were made taking them boating and teaching them to ski.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Margaret Jean Mayrose of Le Mars: four children and their spouses: Pat and Jerry Deegan of Clive, Doug and Karen Mayrose, JoAnn and Kevin Sitzmann, and Russ and Linda Mayrose, all of Le Mars: nine grandchildren: nine great-grandchildren: a brother, Leo Mayrose of Hellertown, Pa.; a sister Marjorie Schaubert of Mishawaka, Ind.; a sister-in-law Helen Mayrose of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Don Mayrose; a grandson John Douglas Mayrose; three brothers, Cletus, Fritz, and Harry Mayrose; and three sisters, Cynthia LaVelle, Bernice Gengler, and Dorothy Reuter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvery Cemetary in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Sunday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be Monday morning for one hour prior to the funeral at St. James Catholic Church.
