HINTON, Iowa -- Gerald R. Thoreson, 73, of Hinton died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at his residence following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, with the Rev. David Kottlowski officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Casper American Legion Post 477 of Hinton. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
Gerald Robert Thoreson was the youngest child born to Martin and Florence (Burke) Thoreson on March 28, 1929, in Soldier, Iowa. He was raised in the Ute and Soldier area. He served in the U.S. Army for four years during the Korean War.
He married Margaret "Peggy" Kisling on Sept. 27, 1952, in Sioux City. Together they had three children, Lynette, Norman and Craig. Peggy passed away July 11, 1986, in Hinton. Gerald spent his entire life building a family farm east of Hinton.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton. Gerald loved get-togethers with family and friends, playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren and also enjoyed time with his special friend, Geri Harrison. He was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynette Braesch and her husband, Roger of Hinton; two sons, Norman Thoreson and his wife, Connie of Lawton, Iowa, and Craig Thoreson and his wife, Renee of Hinton; six grandchildren, Jessica Tellez and her husband, Noe, Monica Thoreson, Dustin Thoreson, Travis Boetger, Kelsie Thoreson and Malloy Thoreson; a special friend, Geri Harrison of Hinton; a sister, Joyce Beavers of Le Mars, Iowa; a brother-in-law; several sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Clio, Vernon and Harlan.
Pallbearers will be Lanny Casper, Steve Christiansen, Pete Struve, Clair Thoreson, Glen Ludwig and Dave Muecke. His grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
