MRS. JOHN GOEBEL

Mrs. John Goebel, 88, Granville, died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 1984) at the Orange City hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Granville, with Rev. Francis Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen in charge of arrangements.

Rosaries will be recited at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Granville.

Martha Bernard was born Aug. 20, 1896, to Henry and Ann (Paradise) Bernard. She married Mr. Goebel Feb. 5, 1918, at Granville. She and her husband farmed near Granville until their retirement in 1957. They moved into Granville in 1962. Mr. Goebel preceded her in death Jan. 16, 1983. She has resided at Happy Siesta Nursing Home, Remsen, since Sept. 22, 1983.

Mrs. Goebel was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the church guild and Christian Mother’s Society.

Survivors are six sons, Magnus Linus and Gerald of Granville, Odilo of Worthington, Firmin of Rushmore, Minn., and Ivan of San Leandro, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Jean) Loutsch of LeMars, Mrs. Lawrence (Arlene) McDermott, of Kingsley, Mrs. Peter (Vivian) Homan of Remsen, Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Murphy of Cherokee; 61 grandchildren; 74 great grandchildren; one brother, Frank Bernard of Granville; three sisters, Mrs. Anton (Mary) Gaul and Catherine Bernard of Granville, and Mrs. William (Alvia) Boermann, of Tarkio, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son in infancy, and one great-granddaughter.
