Clifford "Gene" Jurgensen, 72, of Sioux City went home to be with his Savior on Monday, May 18, 2009, at his residence after a long courageous battle with cancer and COPD.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lloyd Grant officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Clifford "Gene" was born June 2, 1936, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Clifford G. and Darlene (Butcher) Jurgensen. He lived in the Akron area and attended rural elementary schools. The family moved to Le Mars, Iowa, where he attended Le Mars High School. In 1956, he moved to Sioux City.
He married Phyllis Peterson on March 14, 1958, in Sioux City. He retired from Aratex in 1994, after 24 years of service. Phyllis passed away Nov. 11, 2003, in Sioux City.
During his employment, he was a member of the Teamsters Union 554. He was a former member of Sioux City Baptist Church until a few months ago, when he started attending Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and being Papa to Brady.
Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Campbell of Sioux City and Sherry and her husband, Roger Jessen of Sergeant Bluff; a son, Larry Jurgensen of Sioux City; a granddaughter, Kayla Murphy of Sioux City; a grandson, Darin Hughes of Sergeant Bluff; a great-grandson, Brady Murphy of Sioux City; a sister, Connie Anderson of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Shirley Uhl and her friend, Richard, of Dakota City and Karen Adams of South Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and sisters, Rosemary Jurgensen, Garnet Jurgensen, Beverly Crosgrove and Dorothy Ragsdale.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Uhl, Brian Uhl, Roger Jessen, Dean Mahon, Lance Crosgrove and Ronnie Thornton. Honorary pallbearer will be William Jessen.
