Former Remsen Resident Dead
Miss Annie Mai died at St. Joseph’s hospital, in Dubuque, on Thursday, May 9th, of heart trouble. The funeral was held in Remsen last Monday and interment made in the Catholic cemetery here. She was thirty nine years of age and had been troubled with heart disease for about a year.
Annie Mai was born on the eleventh day of May 1873, on a farm near Gilbersville, Iowa in the vicinity of Waterloo. The family came to Remsen in 1880 and moved to a farm. In 1893 the girl came to town with her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. William Mai, who retired, and shortly after this, her father passed away. She made her home with her mother for some years. In 1906, Annie was taken to Dubuque, to St. Joseph’s hospital on account of ill health, and there she remained under the care of Sisters of Mercy, until her death. Her mother died about two years ago.
The deceased lady leaves a brother, Barney; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Frank and Mrs. Lena Meyen, all of whom live near Remsen. Her death came as an unexpected shock to the family, who have the sympathy of their many friends. The body was brought here on Sunday afternoon by Barney Mai, and the funeral was held from St. Mary’s church.
