MARCUS, Iowa -- Frank H. Peppersack, 94, of LeMars, Iowa, died Friday, July 21, 2006, at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery at Marcus, with military graveside services by American Legion, F.I. Goodburn Post 517 of Marcus. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.

Frank was born Dec. 17, 1911, in St. Leo, Minn., the son of Bernard and Mary (Rolfes) Peppersack. As a young child, his family moved to a farm 10 miles west of Le Mars. Later, his family moved three and a half miles northwest of Oyens, Iowa. Frank and his family moved to Kansas during the 1930’s, but Frank only stayed a short time before moving back to Iowa.

In 1936, he began working for Lawrence Neubel and worked for him until 1940, when he went to work for Leo Alesch. In 1941, he was drafted by the U.S. Army, where he spent 56 months serving his country during World War II. During this time he was stationed in England, France and Belgium, where he worked in heavy automotive maintenance repairing trucks, cars and weapons. After he returned from his military duty, he continued to work for Leo Alesch the next 18 years.

In 1963 he married Antonette Carey and started farming north of Marcus for the next 13 years until they retired. After their retirement, the couple continued to live on what was known as "Peppersack’s Corner" until they moved to LeMars in 1989.

Frank was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus and St. James Catholic Church in LeMars. He was very fond of bowling and enjoyed tournaments. He always enjoyed gardening and canned many jars of fruits and vegetables.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, June Deroche of Metairie, La.; three stepgrandsons and their spouses, Jacob Jr. and Patsy, Jon and Marie and Jeffrey Nastasi all of Metairie; eight great-stepgrandchildren; 13 great-great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Cecilia Tanking of Wetmore, Kan. and Frances Stalbaumer and her husband, Ray of Seneca, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are five daughters of Leo and Clara Alesch, who were considered family by Frank, Leone Sand of Marcus, Joanne Corcoran of Whitefish Bay, Wis., Joyce Keffeler of Ukiah, Calif., Mary Fran Blasberg of Clive, Iowa and Corinne Alesch of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Antonette, who died Oct. 23, 2005, a brother, Henry Peppersack; and two sisters, Philomena Fangman and Rosalinda Latus.
