LE MARS, Iowa – Richard “Dick” Laughton, 90 of Le Mars died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer serviced at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mr. Laughton was born Feb. 8, 1909 in Plymouth County, the son of Leora Laughton. He graduated from Le Mars Central High School and attended Western Union College (Westmar College).

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II.

He married Gladys Severson-Kemis on Nov. 5, 1953 in Mankato, Minn.

He was employed as a sales representative for United Film Services for 24 years. The couple managed the Le Mars Municipal Golf Course from 1968 until retiring in 1975.

He was a member of First Methodist church, American Legion Wasmer Post 241 and Le Mars Elk’s Club. He enjoyed golfing, refinishing furniture and yard work.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Thomas and Dianne of Le Mars and John and Ronni of Bristol, R. I,; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Joe Byrnes of Miami, Fla; and four grandchildren, Julie and Jean Laughton and Patrick and Michael Byrnes.

Pallbearers will be Jim Lorenzen, Earl Tammes, Bud Withrow, Bob Schroeder, Roman Langel and George Laughton.
