STRUBLE, Iowa -- Ruth Marie Ruhland, 70, of rural Struble died Monday, March 3, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with an Altar-Rosary Society rosary at 4 p.m., and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

The former Ruth Marie Rotering was born July 17, 1932 at Arcadia, Wis., the daughter of Albin and Margaret (Schlesser) Rotering. She grew up on a farm near Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School.

On April 7, 1956, she married James L. Ruhland at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Struble their entire married life. Her husband, Jim, died Oct. 25, 1989. Ruth continued to live on the farm.

Ruth was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Altar-Rosary Society in Struble. She was also active with the Centennial Committee when Struble celebrated 100 years in 1990.

Survivors include her eight children, Roger and Rhonda, both of rural Struble, Rose of Sioux Falls, S.D., Richard of Ireton, Iowa, Jona of Sioux Falls, John and his wife, Lori, of Le Mars, Iowa; Janet Steen and her husband, Jerry, of Sioux City and Jeff and his wife, Amy, of Guthrie Center, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Jeremy, Erin, Kyle and Courtney Ruhland, Katie and Jack Ruhland, Jakob, Caleb, Abby and Justin Steen and Allison and Madison Ruhland; two sisters, Marcella Schlesser and her husband, Milo, of Le Mars and Lucille George and her husband, Walter, of Chester, S.D.; two brothers, Bernard Rotering and his wife, Dorothy, of Arcadia, Wis. and Robert Rotering and his wife, Sharon, of Alma, Wis.; her mother-in-law, Mary Ann Ruhland of Le Mars; and five sisters-in-law, Frances Rotering of Arcadia, Sheila Rotering of Buffalo City, Wis., Mary Andersen of New Richmond, Wis., Irene Ruhland of Coralville, Iowa and Rosemary Nies and her husband, Bill of Atchison, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; a granddaughter, Hope Ruhland; three brothers, Roman, Alvin and David Rotering; and her father-in-law, Frank Ruhland.
