LE MARS, Iowa -- Joseph C. Ruden, 79, of Le Mars died Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Oyens, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the Brunsville American Legion Heeren-McHale-Wilken Post 724. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 4 p.m., a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Joseph was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Oyens, Iowa, to Joseph M. and Mary (Goetzinger) Ruden. He grew up near Oyens until he left for the service in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He and Bonnie Kenaley were married Feb. 19, 1955, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. They farmed until 1965, when the family moved to Le Mars. He was a livestock feed salesman for Walnut Grove until 1980 and continued in feed sales until his retirement in 1988.

He coached numerous Little League baseball and softball teams in Le Mars between 1970 and 1986. He participated in Classic League bowling for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Brunsville American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie; six children, Roxanne (Bob) Kelly of Des Moines, Dave (Lisa) Ruden of Le Mars, Barb (Greg) Utesch of Ames, Iowa, Bridget (Brien) Schumacher of Longmont, Colo., Tim (Carol) Ruden of Ogden, Utah, and Caroline (Todd) Hanson of Brandon, S.D.; 17 grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters, Ray (Lorraine) Ruden of Le Mars, Mary Ann Von Arb of Alton, Iowa, Eldon (Mildred) Ruden of Le Mars, Erma (Leland) Bush of Cleghorn, Iowa, Tom (Marva) Ruden of Alton, Ill., Cy (Robert) Ahlers of Le Mars and Jeannie (Larry) Woll of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death four brothers and sisters, Silvius Ruden, Harold Ruden, Walter Ruden and Florence Madsen.
