SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Dennis J. Reisma, 56, of Sioux Center died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at New Life Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Carl Boersma officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Dennis Jay Reisma was born July 5, 1947, to Jerry and Helen (Geels) Reisma, in Le Mars, Iowa. He was raised in Sioux Center, where he attended Sioux Center Christian School. As a young man, he served two years in the U.S. Army. He was stationed most of his tour in Germany as a fuel tanker driver with a supply unit. Following his discharge, he returned to Sioux Center and began working for his family's business, Reisma Ready Mix. He ran the company's Cat excavator for many years, preparing building sites for homes and commercial buildings.

Denny was united in marriage to Marlene Bird in Orange City, Iowa, on July 2, 1976. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing and being with family and friends.

He was a member of New Life Reformed Church.

Survivors include five children and spouses, Rick Baxter of Sioux City, Heather and Jon Roetman of Sioux Center, Lance Reisma of Sioux Center, Lisa and Tracy Jones of Washington, Ind., and D.J. and Betsy Reisma of Orange City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Bev and Steve Ausberger of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two brothers and their wives, Jerry and Angie Reisma and Jeff and Pam Reisma, all of Sioux Center; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Livingston of South Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; his parents, Jerry and Helen Reisma; and a brother, Ron Reisma.
