Rachael J. Redmond, 89, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with concelebrants Revs. Merlin Schrad and Nickolas Becker officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 5:30 to 9 p.m., a rosary at 7 p.m. and a vigil service at 8 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

Rachael was born May 16, 1913, in Salix, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Victoria (Renault) Lamoureux. The family moved to Akron, Iowa, when she was a child. She graduated from Akron High School in 1932.

She married James L. Redmond on Jan. 15, 1934, in Akron. Following their marriage, she moved to Sioux City where she raised her family and later provided child care for many families in the community. Mr. Redmond died Dec. 6, 1987, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Confraternity.

Survivors include four sons, the Honorable Maurice Redmond and his wife, Fran of South Sioux City, James Redmond and his wife, Daphne of Dakota Dunes, Thomas Redmond and his wife, Jan of Sioux City, and Richard Redmond and his wife, Leila of Papillion, Neb.; four daughters, Mary Ann Audino and her husband, Frank of Sioux City, Kathleen Riley and her husband, James of Escondido, Calif., Susan Craig of Santee, Calif., and Patricia Redmond of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Helen Redmond of Sioux City; 34 grandchildren, Michelle Sweeney, Renee Jensen, Pat Redmond, Michael, Tony, David, Nicole and Rory Audino, Lisa Davisson, Angela Averman, Stephanie Olberding, James, Thomas, Michael, Kelly and Todd Riley, Damon, Erin, Devin and Deric Redmond, Carrie, Ben and Beau Craig, Jason, Zach and Meghan Nelson, Rachael Sorenson, Jessica, Owen, Adam, Tricia, Lucas, Carly and Lauren Redmond; and 27 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, James Arthur Redmond, in infancy, and Michael Joseph Redmond; four brothers, Leo, Renault, Roger and Paul Lamoureux; seven sisters, Lucille Hauck, Bertha Ceilley, Loretta Lamoureux, Priscilla Sheehan, Georgette Murray, Corinne Davidson and Bernadette Schadel; and a great-grandson, Colin Jensen III.

Pallbearers will be Pat Redmond, Michael Audino, Damon and Deric Redmond, Zachary Nelson and Owen Redmond. The other grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
