Peter DeJong Called Beyond

ROCK Valley - Peter De Jong passed away in the home of his daughter Mrs. Dora Roberts in Le Mars, Sunday, March 7, 1937, at the age of 61 years. Peter de Jong was born in the Netherlands in 1856 and in 1882 was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Reitsma. The family then came to America in 1885 locating at La Crosse, Wisconsin where they remained for a time before trecking across the country to the vicinity of Middleburg, Iowa. In the next two years they made Hull and Doon respectively their residence. The located to Rock Valley in 1901.

To this union were born nine children, five sons and four daughters, one dying in infancy in the Netherlands and John who died in 1929 (1932). The seven who survive are Mrs. Dora Roberts, Le Mars, Zebe of Cherokee, Mrs. Clara Fray, Chippew Falls, Wisc.; Mrs. Jennie Merritt, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. Rose Stiffler, Saint Paul, Minn.; Henry De Jong of Le Mars and Arthur De Jong of Rock Valley and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The wife Mrs. De Jong preceded him in death March 1, 1929 (1932).

Funeral services were held in the Roberts home in Le Mars. Tuesday the body was brought her for burial in the family plot in Valley View Cemetery.
