Frances M. Kirwan, 97, of Sioux City died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at a Sioux City retirement center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 4 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Kirwan was born May 16, 1905, in Merrill, Iowa, to Elmer and Anna (Erickson) Cobb. She attended Sioux City schools. She was employed as a telephone operator at the Sioux City Stockyards and with Davidson's Department Store. She also did volunteer work.

She married Augustine "Gus" Kirwan on Oct. 13, 1930, in Sioux City. He died in 1977, in Rock Hill, S.C.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic Women and a 50-year member of Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Gladys Cobb and Edna Kirwan; and numerous nieces and nephews from the Cobb, Kirwan and Zimmerman families.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Kirwan; three brothers; and a sister.
